We made the short trip up to the Lowther Game Fair to enter the Great Wall Motor World Series scurry events. There were five disciplines to have a go at with the fastest cumulative time qualifying for the chance to win a brand new car at the Midland Game Fair in September. A couple of exercises affected our time but we managed to get a 2nd in the Long Retrieve Discipline.

Fern would have placed first if it not for a coughing fit caused by a thistle getting lodged in her throat two yards from delivering the dummy to me. We were 0.23 seconds behind the winner, utterly disappointed but we'll try again! We won a lovely engraved crystal goblet which will sit along with the rosette, for a few weeks at least, in prime position in the display cabinet!

Today we entered our first gundog competition, the Lakeland Gundog Club Scurry Day. We were fortunate enough to get 3rd place with Fern. It was a fun day out with a couple of challenging retrieves, but it was a great experience in terms of getting the dogs working with lots of distractions which is hard to replicate with normal training.

Hopefully it'll become an annual event as it was excellently organised by all involved.
